N ow that ski season is in the rearview mirror, let’s look ahead at some of the excit- ing new technologies that are in development. Smart alpine skis are once again generating a considerable amount of buzz, and we got a taste of what’s to come at the recent ISPO event in Munich when Elan Skis unveiled a working prototype. Elan’s model contained embedded sensors that deliver real-time and post analytical performance feedback through the cloud. The sensors can produce a variety of metrics such as balance distribution and weight flex to help skiers understand their movements. Elan’s Smart Ski isn’t ready for production yet, as it’s currently being tested in Europe, but the demonstra- tion at ISPO was a big step forward for the industry. While Elan isn’t the first company to come up with an AI and Exoskeletons A look at the ski industry’s newest techtrends Elan’s smart skis feature integrated sensors that measure skier dynamics and provide real-time feedback.
