Sustainable outdoor apparel brand United By Blue (UBB) announced its first ever nationwide cleanup road trip to establish community partnerships between its specialty retailers, conservation or municipal partners, and volunteers. From June to August, the company will be co-hosting 21 cleanups across the country. By the end of 2018, United By Blue will have performed a waterway cleanup in all 50 states.
The Bluemovement Road Trip will be focusing on three primary campaigns centered around 1) The Community: Join The Movement, 2) The Water: Protect Where You Play, and 3) The Individual: What Moves You.
“These recurring themes have shaped what our cleanups program is today,” says Kelly Offner, UBB’s Head of Cleanups. “In the past eight years of cleanups we have witnessed the power that our community of volunteers wields, especially when the health of their local waterway is at risk.”
Goals of the Bluemovement road trip include:
Facilitate 21 waterway cleanups in as many states
Seed feelings of responsibility and personal stake in the environment
Embolden retail stores to host similar events with local stakeholders, partners, and volunteers
“I’m delighted to welcome Kelly [Hilovsky] and Jeff [Butler] to the team as our Bluemovement road crew members,” Offner says. “Kelly and Jeff are taking a break in their careers as technologists and public health advocates to join our team on this cleanup adventure.”
The Bluemovement road trip can be followed online at unitedbyblue.com/bluemovement, on social media @unitedbyblue, or on the road by searching for their Bluemovement branded van.
“We’re thrilled to be part of the Bluemovement as we represent United By Blue on this road trip,” says Kelly and Jeff, UBB’s road crew members. “We can’t wait to spread the message about the importance of waterway conservation as well as connect with new people on the journey. For all those reading this in locations with cleanups, please come out to share stories about your community and say hi to our pup Chance!”
In 2018 alone, United By Blue will have picked up half a million pounds of trash to bring their eight year total to over 1.5 million pounds. Upon completion of their 2018 cleanup season, they will have performed a waterway cleanup in all 50 states. To date, they have worked with over 10,000 volunteers, facilitated 200+ cleanups, and cleaned up 1,073,905 pounds of trash.
