Microban Receives Second bluesign Approval

This week Microban International, a provider of textile odor control and prevention, received bluesign system blue product rating for its Scentry BC100, an odor capture treatment for textiles. Microban received bluesign approval in May 2016 for its ZPTech, a wide-spectrum antimicrobial for textiles, and is continually working to receive bluesign approvals for technologies in its portfolio, said the company.

Microban’s Scentry BC100 is a non-antimicrobial solution that absorbs body odors in clothing and footwear made from polyester, spandex, nylon and synthetic blends, caused by organic chemical compounds. Applied to the fabric during the manufacturing process, it forms a protective barrier on the fabric that traps body odors, regenerating itself by releasing the trapped odors during home launderings. The solution captures more than 90 percent of odors, even after more than 50 typical home launderings, extending the life of the product.

“Ensuring that Microban’s technologies are sustainable is very important to our customers and the end consumer,” said Lisa Owen, senior business director of global textiles for Microban. “Obtaining a bluesign blue product rating shows our partners we are dedicated to bringing them quality products upon which they can rely. It is vital to the continued growth of our business that we reinforce our commitment to help clean up the textiles supply chain to meet environmental, health and safety requirements.”
