Grassroots Adds The Toggery A Retail Member

Buying Group Grassroots Outdoor Alliance announced that The Toggery has joined the organization as a retail member. The Toggery is a locally owned specialty outdoor store with two locations in Whitefish and Kalispell, Mont.

The business’s origin dates back to 1947, when Frank and Jessie Stephens opened the business as a men’s clothing store called Frank’s Shirt Shop in downtown Whitefish. In the coming years, with partners, Rusty and Louise Abell, Frank purchased The Toggery, a neighboring clothing store.

Frank’s son, Gary Stephens, began operating The Toggery in 1970. During the course of the next 30 years, Gary broadened the store to offer both men’s and women’s clothing and footwear. This family tradition continues today. Trek Stephens and his wife Rene operate The Toggery and still claim service and quality as their top priority.

“Our business is about people. Every person who walks through the front door is part of our family,” Trek said.
